First of all, there are three vegetation zones. These vegetation zones are grasslands, forests, and shahara or desert. As you can see, the pictures located at the bottom here are types of vegetation zones I have talked about. The first vegetation zone is call a grassland or a savanah. A savanah is a place with a couple of trees. And a lot of grass. The second picture is of the sahara. The desert was the place they traded and barterd gold and other resources. The desert was very warm and a lot of traders used camels to cross its vast area. Although it had oasis, which were spots of vegetation zones, it was a difficult place to go through. The third and last picture is a forest. Plenty of trees and other resources.

Mali was ruled by rich and powerful kings. Two of the greatest kings were Sundiata and Mansu Musa. Mali began as a small Malinke kingdom around the upper areas of the Niger River.Like Ghana, Mali prospered from the taxes it collected on trade in the empire. All goods passing in, out of, and through the empire were heavily taxed. Later, cowrie shells from the Indian Ocean were introduced and used widely as currency (money)
Ghana, one of the first of the great medieval trading empires of western Africa. It was situated between the Sahara desert and the headwaters of the Niger river.
